BAINBRIDGE ISLAND — The Bainbridge City council is ready to blog.
The Kitsap Sun reports that after months of legal concerns, the council decided this week to have the city website host blogs for all seven council members.
No comments will be allowed but the city will maintain the blogs as public records.
Bainbridge will join just a few cities in the state that permits official blogs for city leaders.
Councilman Steve Bonkowski says he wants to reach residents who don’t take part in city meetings — the council’s traditional means of reaching the public.
Bonkowski had a personal blog on various city issues. He put the blog on hiatus in January after the city manager and other council members expressed concern that council member blogs could get the city in trouble over state public meetings and records rules.
