EVERETT – One day after announcing its new bait vehicle program, the Everett Police Department arrested two men in a bait vehicle sting Tuesday.
Officers left one of the department’s bait vehicles with its engine running in the 3600 block of Smith Avenue.
Within about two minutes, two men entered the car and took the keys and other items then walked away. Several minutes later, the suspects returned and drove off in the car. Officers intervened and stopped the bait vehicle, and arrested the two, Everett police said.
Both men are in their early 40’s and from Everett. Both were booked into the Snohomish County Jail under probable cause for first-degree theft.
Edmonds: Man found dead in water ID’d
A man who was found floating face down in Port Susan July 21 has been identified as Bill Smith.
Smith, 88, of Stanwood drowned while trying to swim to shore in the 18700 block of Soundview Drive. His death has been ruled an accident by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police reported that Smith and a friend anchored a boat and set up crab pots. His friend, who was also swimming to shore, pulled Smith to shore after he found him floating in the water.
Everett: Couple killed in crash are identified
The Snohomish and King County medical examiner’s offices on Tuesday identified a couple who died in a Monday motorcycle accident as Michael Tunney and Erin Appel-Rianda.
Tunney, 48, of Lake Stevens and Appel-Rianda, 41, of Bellingham were on a Harley-Davidson on Highway 204 near 10th Street NE when they collided with a pickup truck, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Tunney died at the scene. Appel-Rianda was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she died.
The pickup driver, 18, suffered minor injuries.
The State Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
