EVERETT — Prosecutors filed a felony assault charge Friday against the former burglary buddy of recently captured fugitive Colton Harris-Moore.
Harley Davidson Ironwing, 20, has claimed in a jailhouse interview that he taught Harris-Moore how to break into homes and quickly find loot. As boys, the pair broke into homes on Camano Island.
Ironwing was arrested last month at a Stanwood grocery store after he allegedly tried to shoplift five packages of cheese. During an attempt to outrun police, Ironwing knocked down an 85-year-old shopper.
The man suffered shoulder injuries from the fall.
Ironwing told police he hid the cheese in his pants because he hadn’t eaten in three days, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Craig Matheson wrote.
Matheson on Friday charged Ironwing with third-degree assault.
The Stanwood man has numerous felony convictions, primarily for property crimes. He is being held on $10,000 bail. He told authorities he’s jobless and homeless.
Harris-Moore, 19 was captured Sunday in the Bahamas after being on the lam for two years. He is suspected of stealing his way across America before boosting an airplane and flying to a more tropical locale. He was captured in a stolen boat.
