LYNNWOOD — A Lynnwood bank robbery suspect hid on the roof of a school for hours to evade capture, according to a confession recounted in court papers.
A man in a red sweatshirt entered a Wells Fargo around noon Tuesday on 196th Street SW. He handed a note to a teller: “Give me all of the big money,” according to police reports filed in court.
He took cash and told the teller to have a nice day. A witness ran after the man to a McDonald’s, where the robber shed his red sweatshirt and ran off.
Police learned the man had talked with a McDonald’s worker just before the robbery. The worker helped to identify a suspect, 22. Officers tracked down his father, who confirmed it was his son on security footage, according to the reports.
Police sighted the suspect around 6 p.m. in Lynnwood. He told Lynnwood officers he was “dope sick,” and that he’d planned to go to Everett to get high on heroin. In the meantime, he said, he’d been hiding for hours on the roof of a small school on Cypress Way, where there’s a preschool and a small Christian school.
He was arrested for investigation of first-degree robbery and a burglary warrant.
