With the Highway 520 floating bridge scheduled to be completely closed this weekend – including Father’s Day- and ramps closed at I-5 and Mercer Street in Seattle, driving on Saturday and Sunday in King County could be a nightmare.
The Fremont Solstice Parade and Mariners games are happ
ening in town this weekend, in addition to regular Father’s Day traffic.
Comments about planning and coordination aside, the bottom line is: driver be prepared.
The bridge is closed for several projects related to the $306 million widening of Highway 520 to six lanes from Medina to Bellevue. The project includes rebuilding interchanges, installing fish-passable culverts, and building transit stops in the center of the highway.
Crews will close all lanes on Highway 520 from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday between Montlake Boulevard in Seattle and I-405 in Bellevue.
All Highway 520 ramps in the construction zone also will close, except for the 108th Avenue NE on-ramp to eastbound Highway 520. The highway will remain open for traffic from I-5 to Montlake Boulevard in Seattle.
The city of Seattle is closing the on- and off-ramps at I-5 and Mercer Street for work on its Mercer Corridor project.
The ramps will close at 11 p.m. Friday and reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.
