MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – A Lynwood police dog sniffed out an armed robbery suspect early Friday by following the scent of the pepperoni stick the man swiped.
The dog tracked the man to the shed where he was hiding, Mountlake Terrace Assistant Police Chief Mike Mitchell said.
The pepperoni “helped the dog track him,” he said.
Police suspect the man, 22, robbed a 7-Eleven at 21202 52nd Ave. W. about 11 p.m. Thursday, then robbed the Plaid Pantry at 21919 66th Ave. W. about 2 a.m. Friday. In both robberies, clerks were threatened with a knife, Mitchell said.
Money, cigarettes and the pepperoni stick were reported stolen. The items taken are similar to those stolen in a robbery of a Mobile station in Edmonds on Wednesday, Mitchell said.
After the Plaid Pantry robbery, police spotted a driver that fit the description of the robber and tried to pull him over. He allegedly drove off, then stopped the car and ran, Mitchell said.
After the Lynnwood dog found the man hiding nearby, he was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
