LYNNWOOD – Just call this one the beer can caper.
Two men in their 30s tried to make a getaway by driving fast and tossing beer cans at police. But neither tactic worked.
The incident began when Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies were called at 6:04 a.m. Saturday to the Lynnwood Schuck’s store in the 400 block of 164th Street SW, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.
At the auto parts store, thieves had just rammed their vehicle into the front door and stolen several items from inside, including tools and a compressor.
A deputy saw a car being driven recklessly from the scene. He began a pursuit, but a passenger began throwing beer cans at the pursuing deputy, Jorgensen said.
It wasn’t known whether the cans were full or empty, or whether the beer was domestic or imported.
The pursuit ended at El Capitan Way in the Eastmont area near Silver Lake, where the thieves were arrested on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and driving a stolen vehicle, Jorgensen said.
It appears that earlier, the same two men had been pursued by the Washington State Patrol after allegedly hitting a Schuck’s store in King County, Jorgensen said.
