BELLINGHAM — A Bellingham dentist has died after being struck by a falling boulder while hiking in North Cascades National Park.
The Bellingham Herald reports that park spokeswoman Denise Shultz says Eric Moldver was hiking Sunday with a group of friends in Skagit County near Easy Pass Trail when a boulder fell from above and hit his head.
Some of the hikers tried to administer CPR on Moldver and another hiker left to get help.
A helicopter sent by the park service recovered Moldver’s body. Moldver, who was a dentist at Interfaith Community Health Center, died from blunt-force trauma to the head.
The incident continues to be investigated.
