BELLINGHAM — The Bellingham City Council is considering an ordinance that could impose a $1,000 fine on anyone who introduces an invasive species into Lake Whatcom, the city’s drinking water supply.
The Bellingham Herald reported the city is concerned about Asia clams and zebra mussels that could foul the water intake system. The city plans to start inspecting boats next year at Lake Whatcom.
