BETHEL, Alaska — A shelter intended to reduce the number of exposure deaths in the southwest Alaska hub community of Bethel as closed just barely a week after it opened for the season.
KYUK reports Bethel Winter House closed Tuesday after the person who coordinates volunteers quit.
Organizer Eva Malvich tells the radio station in an email that there were other problems with clients breaking rules and sneaking in alcohol.
Police tell the station they responded to seven calls for service between Saturday and the Tuesday closing.
Nighttime temperatures are forecast to be in the single digits the rest of this week.
