The Whidbey-Camano Land Trust held a Sea, Trees & Pie Bike Ride through central Whidbey Island on July 22 to raise awareness of its mission and protected properties. Nearly 100 people participated in the ride, choosing from three routes that featured a total of 28 properties protected by the Land Trust.
The annual event takes riders along the beach and wetlands and through farmland and woods.
“My favorite part was the 6-year-old riding with training wheels,” said Stephanie Garlichs, one of the event organizers. “He and his brother didn’t think they could do the whole (5-mile) ride and they did. And they got pie and gummy bears at the end!”
Whidbey Pies sponsored the event and provided each finisher with a slice of pie. Other sponsors were Prairie Center Red Apple Market, Skagit Cycle, Bayview Bicycles and Wayfinder Tours.
