LYNNWOOD — A petition to overturn the fireworks ban in Lynnwood has failed.
The petition needed 2,708 valid signatures to require the city to respond, Snohomish County elections manager Garth Fell said Thursday. It fell short by 513 votes. Of more than 4,700 signatures submitted, hundreds were found to be duplicates or the signers weren’t registered voters, among other problems, Fell said.
The petition was organized by Lynnwood Citizens for Fireworks and Freedom, led by former City Councilman Ted Hikel.
The new ban is set to go into effect next year. Fireworks previously were allowed in Lynnwood during certain hours on July 4.
