OLYMPIA — House and Senate Democrats are looking to raise dozens of fees to prevent cuts in bus and ferry service and other transportation-related programs.
Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, D-Camano Island, and Rep. Judy Clibborn, D-Mercer Island, introduced identical bills late Wednesday that would boost the cost of such things as renewing a driver’s license and replacing license plates.
Clibborn said she will hold a hearing Monday on her legislation, House Bill 2053, which seeks to generate $162 million for the next two-year transportation budget.
In addition to restoring planned service cuts, the money is targeted for building a new ferry, repairing roads and sustaining an auto theft prevention unit of the Washington State Patrol.
