SALEM, Ore. — Raw milk producers in Oregon are asking legislators to let them legally advertise their product.
Oregon is among 30 states that allow the sale of unpasteurized milk, but it sets tight restrictions. A law on the books since the 1950s says sellers of raw milk can’t advertise.
McMinnville farmer Christine Anderson challenged that after an Oregon Department of Agriculture inspector forced her to remove milk prices from a website.
According to the Statesman Journal newspaper she told a House committee Tuesday that she does not consider listing a price to be advertising.
Rep. Brad Witt chairs the House committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources. The Clatskanie Democrat says he is committed to moving a bill removing the ban as quickly as possible.
