MALTBY – A billboard advertising a $100,000 reward has been installed near the site of three luxury homes gutted by arson last week.
The fires are being investigated as domestic terrorism after a banner was found near the houses featuring an anti-development message along with the initials of the Earth Liberation Front.
The arsons also damaged two other homes on the Street of Dreams near Echo Lake. The fires caused $7 million in damage.
No one has been arrested. Investigators have yet to confirm that the fires are the work of ELF, a leaderless group of environmental extremists, that has torched homes in Snohomish County in the past and claimed responsibility for arsons elsewhere.
The Building Industry Association of Washington last week renewed the reward it had established in 2005 after two Snohomish homes were destroyed by an arson claimed by ELF. The 500-square foot billboard is located near the intersection of Highway 524 and 87th Avenue NE.
Anyone who has information about last week’s fires is asked to call the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force at 206-622-0460.
