Q: A new billboard has popped up on 19th Avenue SE and approximately 106th (south of Costco at the Teacher’s Credit Union) on the west side of 19th Avenue SE. It is huge compared with other signs in the area. Aren’t there any restrictions on that type of thing?
—Joann Gutzmer, Everett
A: The sign was approved by the city of Everett. Bob Landles, city land use planning manager, said the sign met requirements in the city billboard ordinance. A billboard has to undergo a state environmental review process. The city planning director approved the billboard, Landles said, after reviewing the environmental report.
Billboards meet different size requirements than signs, he said. This billboard is 25 feet high and as required, is no larger than 300 square feet on either side. Bud Wessman, director of the code compliance department for Everett, said the property was posted several months ago for a public comment period.
