NEW YORK — Andrew Dahl, a Blaine teenager who has become famous for blowing up balloons with his nose, set a new world record Tuesday morning while on “Live with Regis and Kelly.”
The 14-year-old was featured on the national TV show while attempting to beat the record he set in April — blowing up and tying 213 balloons in an hour.
He started blowing up the balloons before the show went on the air Tuesday. At various times during the show, a portion of the screen showed Andrew continuing to inflate the balloons with his nose — he uses only his left nostril — as a clock ticked down the hour deadline.
Shortly before the show ended, the clock ran down to zero as Andrew finished off a final balloon. Stuart Claxton, a Guinness Book of World Records representative — with Andrew, his father Doug Dahl and hosts Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa anxiously waiting — announced, “He’s literally blown the record away with 308 balloons.”
When interviewed by the hosts, Andrew didn’t have much to say about his feat, except that he felt pretty good and was only a “little bit” out of breath.
Doug Dahl told Ripa that Andrew discovered his talent while killing time sitting in the car one day when he was 7 years old.
“That’s something only a boy can discover,” Ripa said.
