MONROE – A two-story home was destroyed tonight in a blaze that sent one woman to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
It was not known she was in the home in the 200 block of North Madison Street in Monroe when the fire started, or if she was trying to rescue pets, said Richelle Risdon, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 3. The fate of the pets wasn’t known, she said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Risdon said.
The fire began at 7:42 p.m. in the home just off Main Street in downtown Monroe, and burned for more than an hour.
Towards the end of the fire, the structure collapsed, Risdon said.
By the time fire crews arrived at the fire, they could only take up defensive positions in an effort to protect nearby buildings, she said.
No firefighters were injured during the fire, Risdon said.
