MUKILTEO — A fire started in the kitchen of a Mukilteo home Monday afternoon.
Police also arrested a man at the house on suspicion of violating a protection order, said Assistant Chief Glen Koen with the Mukilteo Police Department.
Firefighters arrived shortly before 12:40 p.m. They could see smoke coming from the home in the 5500 block of 104th Place SW, Assistant Fire Chief Brian McMahan said.
A cat was rescued, but a snake and chameleon died in the fire.
Marijuana plants also were found inside the home, Koen said.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office estimated the damage at $175,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
