The Marysville School Board will meet at 6 tonight to consider an agreement that will formally sever its ties with Superintendent Linda Whitehead.
In a special board meeting, the board is expected to sign settlement papers for the buyout.
The board, citing advice from its attorney, has refused to divulge the amount of money the district will pay Whitehead until the agreement is formally approved. The Herald has filed a public disclosure request for the information.
Whitehead, who came under heavy criticism during a 49-day teachers’ strike last fall, will leave with more than two years remaining on her contract. With three new members winning election in November, the board and Whitehead have been negotiating through attorneys for several weeks.
If paid the full amount, including salaries and benefits, the amount would exceed $350,000. However, board member Michael Kundu — without elaborating — has said the negotiated settlement figure is "a manageable amount."
The meeting will be at district headquarters, 4220 80th St. NE. The board is also expected to name Paul Sjunnesen as interim superintendent and hire a consultant to help find a permanent replacement. Sjunnesen, 69, was hired in January to serve as an advisor to the school board on budget matters and negotiations.
