CAMANO ISLAND — The Island County Coroner’s Office Wednesday released the name of a woman whose body was found near the entrance to Camano Island State Park on Tuesday.
Tamara Marice Mattson, 39, of Everett died of traumatic injuries to her head and neck, Coroner Robert Bishop said. She is a mother of seven and has a criminal background, papers say.
Bishop would not say what caused the injuries. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.
A man walking his dog found the woman lying on a trail that runs between the park and Cama Beach State Park, the Island County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Police believe Mattson was killed sometime between Monday and at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, when her body was found.
According to court documents, Mattson has a criminal history in Snohomish, King, Pierce and Thurston counties, including convictions for drug possession and theft.
"We’re definitely looking at her criminal history and her associates," Island County Sheriff Mike Hawley said. "We don’t believe this is some random crime."
Investigators said they have no suspects.
Hawley said detectives are not sure where Mattson was living. Relatives last saw her several months ago, he said.
Detectives are widening their search around the park to determine if she was killed nearby. Police don’t believe Mattson was killed where she was found near Lowell Point Road.
