MACHIAS – The search for a missing Machias woman may have ended in the river near her home on Friday.
Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives discovered the body of a woman in shallow water on the Pilchuck River.
“They have determined that her death was a homicide,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.
Investigators found the body during their search for the woman, who lived in the 200 block of N. Machias Road. Investigators can’t confirm the body is that of the missing woman until an autopsy is done. “But it’s presumed to be so,” Jorgensen said.
Friends reported the woman missing on Thursday. She lived alone and was last seen on Wednesday. Her disappearance was considered suspicious, Jorgensen said, but declined to say why.
The county Medical Examiner’s Office did not release the woman’s name or cause of death Friday.
Investigators spent most of Friday at the woman’s home. No arrests were made.
Anyone with information about the missing woman or the body found Friday is asked to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.
