LEAVENWORTH — A Chelan County sheriff’s spokesman says searchers have recovered the body of a 46-year-old missing hiker from the Icicle River near Leavenworth, Washington.
Officials identified the hiker on Friday as Sheila McGowan-Conoley of Leavenworth.
Emergency management specialist Rich Magnussen says she was reported overdue on a day hike with her dog.
A sheriff’s helicopter spotted what was believed to be a body in the water on Thursday. Magnussen says they recovered her body at about 5:45 Thursday night. He says they don’t know why she was in the river.
Relatives reported her missing and a search began Wednesday after her vehicle was found parked, with her dog outside the car. A person camping nearby found a woman’s hiking sandal downriver from a small beach the hiker was known to frequent.
