GOLD BAR – Search and rescue volunteers today recovered the body of a woman who disappeared while hiking at Wallace Falls State Park.
The woman, in her early 40s, apparently climbed over a fence and went to the water’s edge at the middle falls and apparently fell about 262 feet, Snohomish County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.
Her name was withheld pending an autopsy and positive identification of the body.
A search and rescue helicopter spotted the woman’s body in the Wallace River about 2 p.m. downstream from a pool below the falls, she said. Snohomish and King County rescuers used divers and a system of ropes and pulleys to recover the body about 2 p.m.
