LAKE STEVENS — A homemade bomb was found this morning near Machias Elementary School, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reported.
No one was hurt and school started on time, said Rebecca Hover, a department spokeswoman.
A passerby found the device in the school parking lot in the 200 block of 147th Avenue SE early Tuesday, she said.
Members of the Inter-Agency Bomb Squad collected the object, she said.
Sheriffs detectives believe someone tried to light the bomb at an earlier date, possibly over the weekend, Hover said. The bomb apparently didnt go off and it was thrown away in the school parking lot.
Officials do not believe the bomb was intended to harm students.
