Two deadly bombings in Afghanistan on Thursday claimed seven victims, including the deputy governor of turbulent Helmand province, who was blown up while praying in a mosque. The first attack Thursday was an early morning car bombing that apparently targeted a passing Afghanistan National Army bus on a road in Kabul, the capital. The blast killed a civilian and injured four others, according to the interior ministry.
Iraq: Militants fire on Brits
Violence returned Thursday to the southern city of Basra, where militants pummeled Britain’s airport base with 20 rockets and British gunners answered with volleys of artillery. Civilians were killed and wounded in the crossfire. Meanwhile, in Baghdad, a bomb-rigged car blew apart at a bus stop, killing at least five people in a Shiite enclave that had not seen major violence in months.
