BOTHELL — A Bothell man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of his mother last month.
David Coffin, 28, allegedly told police he stabbed his mother with a kitchen knife while she watched television, according to court documents. Gloria Studdard, 60, was rushed to the hospital, where she was treated for two collapsed lungs and other injuries.
She was released from the hospital but returned after she began to experience complications. She died May 4 as a result of the stabbing, according to court documents.
Coffin is charged with second-degree murder. He is being held on $1 million bail.
Studdard’s boyfriend told detectives Coffin takes medication for a mental health disorder. Coffin told police he had been angry with his mother for several years because she didn’t respect him, according to court papers.
Investigators said Coffin explained to them how he grabbed a knife from the kitchen, went to his bedroom and contemplated stabbing his mother. About 10 minutes later, he walked up behind Studdard and stabbed her in the back, according to investigators.
He returned to the kitchen, where he sat down and cried, prosecutors wrote.
