WOODLAND — A young boy and a young girl who were on foot were struck and killed by a northbound Amtrak train Tuesday night near Woodland.
BNSF Railway spokesman Gus Melonas said the accident occurred at about 7 p.m. He said the victims were preteens or in their teens.
Melonas said the accident was not at a crossing, but there are two crossings nearby.
The double main line between Portland, Ore., and Seattle has been closed while the Woodland Police Department conducts an investigation, he said. The lines are owned by BNSF.
According to Melonas, about 50 trains use the lines daily.
