VANCOUVER, Wash. — The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for a 13-year-old boy who went missing Monday after a recreational boat sank on the Columbia River near Camas.
Two adult men in an 18-foot boat, reported to be the boy’s father and grandfather, were rescued by Good Samaritans and treated for exposure.
The three boaters were tossed into the water near Lady Island at about 10:15 a.m.
A witness reported that the boat that was anchored got entangled in the anchor line and overturned.
Rescue crews from several agencies in Washington state and Oregon spent hours searching for the boy by boat and helicopter.
Authorities believe he was not wearing a lifejacket.
