EVERETT – A 15-year-old boy sat before a judge in Snohomish County Juvenile Court this morning and was ordered to remain behind bars for investigation of second-degree murder.
The boy and an 18-year-old man were arrested Thursday night in death of an 18-year-old man on a Lynnwood street corner.
Detectives believe the victim was beaten with a metal bar and stabbed with a knife. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was later pronounced dead.
Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives worked into Friday morning in the 15400 block of Admiralty Way, interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence. Investigators recovered a knife at the scene and other evidence that they plan to send to the crime lab, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
It appears that the victim was living with his girlfriend at house where the 15-year-old boy lived.
The 15-year-old boy’s attorney argued this morning that he was involved in an altercation with the victim but it was the 18-year-old suspect who stabbed the man.
The boy didn’t know the man had a knife, attorney Kristin Timms said. She argued that there wasn’t probable cause to hold the boy for investigation of second-degree murder.
Judge David Kurtz disagreed and ordered that the teen be held on $25,000 cash only bail.
The 18-year-old suspect is expected to make a hearing in Everett District Court this afternoon.
The slain man’s name was not released pending notification of family.
