LYNNWOOD — Police here were investigating the apparent killing of a woman and searching for her boyfriend after a tip led them to a body in an apartment Wednesday.
The investigation began after an unidentified person in Everett called 911 to report that an acquaintance had just said he’d killed his girlfriend, Lynnwood police Cmdr. Paul Watkins said.
About 7 a.m., Lynnwood police went to an apartment in the 5800 block of 200th Street SW. They forced their way inside when nobody answered the door and discovered the body of a young woman, Watkins said.
Detectives Wednesday were obtaining search warrants for the apartment. The case is being investigated as a potential homicide, Watkins said.
Watkins also said police are looking for the woman’s boyfriend, Leo Gardo Serzo, 22. He is described as Asian, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 128 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
Serzo may be driving a black 1993 Ford Explorer, Washington license 182 NFD. There is a possibility the vehicle has a different license plate taken from another car, Watkins said. That license is 345 ERZ. Watkins also said police were told Serzo had said he was heading to Mexico.
He urged anyone with information on Serzo’s whereabouts to call 911 or the Lynnwood Police Department at 425-744-6900.
The woman’s name and how she died were not released. Police said previously the most recent homicide in Lynnwood was in 1998 when Eloise Fitzner was killed at the Lighthouse Free Methodist Church. James Elledge was convicted of that murder.
