BREMERTON — Washington State Ferries has begun operating an 11:30 p.m. ferry from Seattle to Bremerton on nights when they expect large crowds.
The Kitsap Sun reported that officials are operating the extra ferry on nights they can anticipate large crowds, such as Mariners games Friday and Saturday.
WSF spokesman Ian Sterling says the system isn’t perfect because they can’t always predict large crowds. The practice of adding an extra trip began on New Year’s Eve, but St. Patrick’s Day events didn’t get an extra trip nor did last Saturday’s Sounders game.
When the extra ferry doesn’t run, people who don’t make it on the 10:30 p.m. boat must wait to leave until 12:50 a.m.
Sterling says WSF can’t add an extra round trip every weekend because it would be too costly.
