LYNNWOOD — Two teenage boys reportedly dove into the cold water and rescued a 26-year-old man drowning in Martha Lake on Thursday evening, said Leslie Hynes, a spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1.
The boys saw the man at the bottom of the lake near Lynnwood about 6:24 p.m., Hynes said. They jumped into the lake and pulled the man out of the water. Bystanders gave first aid to the man, who had stopped breathing.
By the time medics arrived, the man had been resuscitated, Hynes said. He was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. It’s unclear how the man ended up in the water.
People are encouraged to use free life jackets available at the lake, Hynes said.
Officials want to identify the two boys to thank them for their rescue effort. Those who know them are encouraged to contact Hynes at 425-551-1243.
Camano Island: Police on lookout for teen
Sheriff’s deputies here continue to keep watch for Colton Harris-Moore, the notorious teenage serial burglar, who some believe may have returned to his island home.
Several residents have told officials that they may have seen the teen. Harris-Moore, 17, escaped from a Renton group home on April 30.
Still, police cannot confirm the teenager is back in the area, Island County Sheriff Mark Brown said Thursday.
Deputies have feared Harris-Moore might return to his familiar territory on Camano Island and continue his routine of breaking into vacation homes.
Additional deputies have been assigned to patrol the island, Brown has said.
“Please continue to remain vigilant in watching for and reporting suspicious activity in your respective neighborhoods,” Brown wrote in an e-mail to residents Thursday.
Harris-Moore is described as approximately 6 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing more than 200 pounds. Anyone who sees the boy or suspicious activity is asked to call 911.
Everett: Man jailed in reckless driving case
Troopers in a Washington State Patrol airplane followed an Everett motorcyclist home from Seattle on Wednesday evening after they spotted him driving nearly 120 mph on I-5, according to authorities.
Police in the airplane radioed to troopers on the ground and led them to the man, 28, who had ditched the bike and tried to hide behind a truck, trooper Keith Leary said.
Just before 8 p.m., the State Patrol aircraft spotted about 10 bikers doing stunts and speeding on I-90 near Seattle, Leary said. They followed the bikes north on I-5 and the Everett man took off.
The motorcyclist drove on the shoulder and also threaded through traffic. Troopers on the ground held back and allowed the airplane to follow the man. He got off the freeway at the Everett Mall, then ditched the motorcycle at 73rd and McDougall Avenue and ran through yards, jumping fences before hiding behind a truck, Leary said.
The aircraft is equipped with sophisticated video cameras and the entire incident was recorded, he said.
The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of reckless driving. The motorcycle was impounded.
“We will not tolerate that type of driving,” Leary said.
Snohomish County: Fire crews head east
Crews from several Snohomish County fire districts were headed to Eastern Washington on Thursday to help fight the 1,000-acre Browns Canyon fire east of Wenatchee.
Brush fire equipment and crews from Monroe, Getchell, Gold Bar and North County Fire were assembling Thursday, said Gold Bar Fire Chief Eric Andrews.
The mobilization could last up to two weeks or until the fire is extinguished, he said.
A red-flag warning was in effect for much of the eastern part of the state, meaning condition for fires was “explosive,” Andrews said.
