A Jefferson County man arrested Saturday morning after gunshots were fired in the direction of other motorists was charged Tuesday with two counts of drive-by shooting.
Richard Roy Gamble, 61,of Brinnon was being held on $50,000 bail
According to charging papers, the defendant told State Patrol troopers: "They were tailgating me and passing me real fast. That’s why I shot at them, just to teach them a lesson."
There were no injuries.
Deputy prosecutor John Adcock said Gamble has 14 previous misdemeanor convictions and one conviction for second-degree robbery.
Gamble told officers he had an argument with his mother at her Everett home early that morning. When he left, he turned onto Highway 526 going toward I-5. He pulled behind a Toyota pickup and became angry with the man’s driving, Adcock said.
He had two pistols in his vehicle, aiming one at the other driver and firing into his truck. Adcock said the bullet hit behind the driver’s seat on the driver’s side.
The victim pulled over to the side of the road and called police.
The second victim encountered Gamble’s car on southbound I-5. She told troopers that Gamble nearly ran another vehicle off the road while entering the freeway, and then drove at a slow speed in a 60-mph zone.
Adcock said Gamble became upset with the second victim’s driving and shot at her pickup, hitting it in the tailgate. He then pulled alongside the woman and pointed the pistol at her by holding it over his roof and firing one more time, Adcock said.
She stopped and called police.
Troopers arrested Gamble in the Lynnwood area. They found two loaded pistols on the seat in the car, documents said.
