LYNNWOOD – A small brush fire along the edge of I-5 scorched several thousand square yards of land and forced police to close the southbound offramp to 196th Street SW on Sunday afternoon.
The fire was largely extinguished a half-hour after firefighters were dispatched there at 1:36 p.m., according to the Lynnwood Fire Department.
However, the blaze, along a steep slope above the offramp, prompted Washington State Patrol troopers to close the entire exit for several minutes shortly after 2 p.m., and close one of the two offramp lanes until 2:45, according to the State Patrol.
The fire department was uncertain what sparked the fire.
