A brush fire Sunday afternoon backed up traffic in both directions of Highway 522.
Fire crews rushed around 3:30 p.m. to fight a brush fire burning along the highway by the Snohomish River bridge, said Kevin Sullivan, acting battalion chief of Monroe Fire District.
It took firefighters about an hour to knock down the fire, he said. Flames were shooting up as high as 10 feet.
The fire burned through a third of an acre of brush and some trees. Nobody was hurt.
