SEATTLE — A Burien woman accused of starving her baby son has been charged with criminal mistreatment and domestic violence.
King County prosecutors charged Katherine Amanda Mattern on Tuesday after an investigation by Child Protective Services noted the baby born in March never weighed more than 9 pounds through April.
The baby boy and the woman’s 2-year-old daughter are now in state care.
KING-TV reports Mattern had moved in August from Oregon where child welfare workers found she was a threat to harm and neglect her daughter. Mattern reportedly had a relationship with a registered sex offender who was not allowed to have contact with children.
