If you’ve been dreaming of starting a nice, warm fire in your fireplace, you can safely do so.
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency at noon today lifted a burn ban for Snohomish, King, Pierce and Kitsap counties.
The “stage 2” burn ban had been in effect since Monday, when stagnant air coupled with cold temperatures pushed the air pollution levels to a threshold.
Last week’s stagnant fog finally began clearing up, resulting in cleaner air, agency spokeswoman Kimberley Cline said.
While the burn ban lasted, people got the message, Cline said.
“While pollution levels did rise last week, the air quality did not degrade as much as we thought it might,” she said. “We anecdotally attribute this success to folks complying with the burn ban, and we thank everyone for doing their share to help protect our air.”
