A burn ban in place for Snohomish County and other local jurisdictions since last week was scheduled to be lifted as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency issued a Stage 1 ban Thursday because of stagnant weather and elevated levels of pollution. On Saturday, the agency upgraded
it to a more serious Stage 2 burn ban.
During a Stage 2 burn ban, no outdoor fires are allowed. No burning is allowed in any fireplace, pellet stove or wood stove, unless it is the home’s only adequate source of heat. “Adequate source of heat” means the ability to maintain 70 degrees Fahrenheit at a point three feet above the floor in all normally inhabited areas of a dwelling.
No visible smoke is allowed from any solid-fuel burning device at any time, beyond a 20-minute start-up period — even if it is the only adequate source of heat.
Violations are subject to a $1,000 penalty.
