TACOMA — Stagnant weather conditions and rising air pollution has prompted the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency to maintain a Stage 2 burn ban in Pierce and Snohomish counties.
Air pollution in those counties was at levels “unhealthy for sensitive groups” on Saturday.
A Stage 2 ban means all wood burning is prohibited. That includes pellet stoves.
The Stage 1 burn ban for the Town of Darrington also remains in effect. Stage 1 means pellet stoves and certified wood stoves are allowed.
The calm and cold weather conditions may continue through Sunday night or Monday morning. A weak weather system is expected on Monday afternoon, which should bring some warmer temperatures and some air mixing, hopefully ending all the bans.
