An Everett woman died early Tuesday afternoon of burns she received New Year’s Eve in her home, officials said.
Carol L. Gagnon, 71, was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle by
an Everett fire medic unit after her husband called for help around 8:15 p.m.
Joseph Gagnon returned to their home in the 1700 block of 74th Street SE to find his wife of 53 years severely burned.
The couple, now retired, for years ran Gagnon Supply Co. in Everett.
Everett fire officials said she may have come too close to a fireplace, but her husband said he suspects that a match might have caught his wife’s clothing on fire.
According to Everett Fire Department, she suffered burns to her back, chest, arms and face.
Marysville
Fire damages house: A fire in a Marysville home about noon Tuesday caused "significant damage," but no injuries, Marysville Fire Department officials said.
The cause of the fire, in a single-story rambler located in the 10400 block of 60th Avenue NE, was under investigation by the Snohomish County fire marshal’s office, fire Lt. John Milless said.
There was no immediate fire damage estimate, Milless said.
The home’s occupants were assisted by the American Red Cross. Milless said three engine companies and a total of about 15 firefighters responded and quickly extinguished flames.
