YAKIMA — There will be fighting in the streets Friday night in Yakima.
The city has granted permits to close a block-long stretch of Yakima Avenue to allow a fighting cage to be set up for about a dozen amateur bouts. Promoter Julie Guerin, co-owner of Yakima Mixed Martial Arts, says he expects about 500 people to watch the state-sanctioned competition.
Guerin tells the Yakima Herald-Republic that he wants to have a street party. He says there will be four local bands, a beer garden, food vendors and exhibits by other Yakima businesses. He says two off-duty city police officers will provide security at the event.
