CAMANO ISLAND — The Camano Island fire chief has resigned.
Michael Schick, a former deputy fire chief in a suburb of Denver, returned to his home state of Washington, to become the chief on the island in 2014.
“I saw Camano was looking for a chief and thought, ‘Here’s my dream fire department,’ ” he said when he was appointed.
He stepped down at a board meeting this month.
“Citing personal and professional reasons, Chief Schick and his wife are looking forward to a change in location and to pursue other employment opportunities within the fire service,” the fire district announced this week.
Assistant Chief Craig Helgeland will serve as interim acting chief.
