SEATTLE — The state Public Disclosure Commission has dismissed a complaint about Snohomish County executive candidate Mike Hope’s use of a police uniform on his campaign website.
The Seattle Police Department, however, where Hope works as a patrol officer, has decided to have a supervisor review departmental policies with Hope. That action by the Office of Professional Accountability is less serious than finding the complaint substantiated.
Hope, a Republican state representative from Lake Stevens, is challenging county Executive Aaron Reardon, the two-term Democratic incumbent. On Monday, Hope said his department still could dismiss the complaint.
“They’re going to make the right decision,” he said. “They’re going to toss these things.”
Both complaints were filed by the same person. On Friday, he emailed a Sept. 21 letter from the police Office of Professional Accountability describing what would happen with the complaint.
The Public Disclosure Commission dismissed the complaint about the uniform Sept. 16, saying that Hope was wearing no legible patches or insignias in photos used on his county executive campaign site.
