SEATTLE — The Justice Department says a 47-year-old man from British Columbia has pleaded guilty to a federal sex crime in which he believed he was going to meet a 12-year-old for sex.
The Department said Kuldip “Kelly” Singh Mahal pleaded guilty Tuesday. He was arrested in February 2015 at a park in Burlington.
Officials say Mahal believed he had been corresponding with a 12-year-old girl when he had actually sent sexually explicit text messages and photos to an undercover agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
Court records say Mahal continued communications even after the agent claimed she was 12.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, both sides will recommend a sentence between 78 and 108 months in prison. Mahal is scheduled for sentencing in April.
