BURNABY, British Columbia – Canadian fisheries officers have raided the main office of British Columbia Hydro in the investigation of a fish kill on the Columbia River last summer.
More than 10 officers spent 12 hours in the provincially owned utility’s office in this Vancouver suburb Wednesday and took away several boxes full of documents.
The investigation covers the death of about 13,000 rainbow trout, dace, whitefish and suckers after B.C. Hydro reduced the flow of water from the Hugh L. Keenleyside Dam on July 10.
Elisha Odowichuk, a spokeswoman for the electrical utility, said Thursday the flow was reduced for three days at the request of U.S. officials who were worried about high water levels at Grand Coulee Dam, hundreds of miles downriver in Washington state.

Alleged ax attacker escapes, is recaptured: A man suspected of using an ax to wound two people at a coastal resort before being shot by a resident slipped away from the hospital where he was being treated for his injuries Friday, but was later recaptured. Jimmie Douglas Davis, 35, was at Legacy Emmanuel Hospital being treated for the gunshot wounds. Because of the severity of the injuries, he wasn’t due to be released until Dec. 26, Oregon State Police said. The hospital called the police, who had been checking on Davis, at about 11 a.m. to report that he had disappeared. Davis was captured Friday night in the Tigard area and taken back to the hospital, police said.
