SHINE — The Washington State Patrol says a vehicle crashed through a barrier on the Hood Canal bridge and onto a lower deck that’s used by maintenance vehicles.
Trooper Krista Hedstrom told The Kitsap Sun the bridge was in the process of closing Friday night when a vehicle was hit by a barrier arm as it was lowering. She says it appears the driver tried to pull over to the right after the barrier hit his windshield, but ended up on the lower deck.
Hedstrom says the driver wasn’t hurt but he was taken into custody for investigation of DUI.
The bridge was closed for about an hour but traffic was flowing again late Friday night.
