Car strikes two houses, injuring woman and boy

briefsMOUNTLAKE TERRACE – A Lynnwood woman and her son were injured Saturday when the woman’s Dodge Durango left the road and struck two houses, becoming stuck in the second one.

The crash occurred in the 22600 block of 56th Avenue W. about 2:45 p.m., said Leslie Hynes, Snohomish County Fire District No. 1 spokeswoman.

The woman’s vehicle clipped the corner of one house and lodged into the corner of the second one, Hynes said.

The Durango hit the wall of the second house about 4 feet from the ground and intruded about 2 feet into the house, where it became stuck, she said. No one was home at the time, she said.

The woman was believed to be between 30 and 35. She and her 6-year-old son were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Their conditions were unavailable due to federal privacy laws, but their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Hynes said.

Everett: Pilot escapes injuries in plane crash

A pilot escaped injury Saturday when his small airplane crashed shortly after takeoff from Paine Field.

The unidentified man had taken off in a Zenith Zodiac, an airplane built from a kit, shortly before 1 p.m.

“He’s not sure why it came down,” airport director David Waggoner said. “It could have been a stall. He landed hard and it collapsed the left main landing gear. I don’t think he was too high.”

The plane was damaged but not destroyed. The crash briefly delayed the landings of a couple of other aircraft before that portion of the runway was reopened.

Seattle: Victim’s condition upgraded

A Bothell woman critically injured in a traffic crash this week on I-5 at Smokey Point has been upgraded to serious condition.

Martha Holschen, 47, was one of seven people injured Wednesday after a Ford Explorer careened across the median and into the path of a Chevrolet Suburban and a Toyota pickup. Another person died at the scene.

A passenger in Holschen’s vehicle, Joli Ann Holschen, age unavailable, remained in serious condition.

The driver of the car that crossed the median, Juliann Odom, 22, of Bellevue remained in satisfactory condition.

All three are at Harborview Medical Center.

The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the crash and hopes to talk to Odom on Monday to find out why her vehicle crossed the freeway.
