Bike Everywhere Day was Friday. So I decided to brave the sidewalks with my two kids like a good mom who happens to be a multi-modal traffic columnist.
We successfully avoided Cry Everywhere Day (minus one spill).
And we made it to school on time (barely).
But with one girl still getting her pedal legs, and another who is fearful even with training wheels, it was mostly Walk Everywhere Day for mommy (dragging my mountain bike alongside me).
We survived with smiles intact — at school and later at the library — because of my only genius move: our own personal “celebration stations.” Toys! Books! (I am not above bribery, people.)
Still, I decided to skip the official Bike Everywhere Day “celebration station” at Everett Station as I continued on to work. I missed out on drinks, snacks and prizes (but also another hill to climb).
