Myrtle Aasness of Bothell is to celebrate her 103rd birthday today.
Myrtle Foss was born on Jan. 22, 1906, in North Dakota. She was brought up in Montana and worked for the railroad.
In 1929, Myrtle married Larry Aasness. He died in 1985. The couple has a son and a daughter.
The family moved to Washington in 1942 and three years later boarded a ship to Hawaii. They spent five years there as Larry helped to rebuild Pearl Harbor.
Myrtle attributes her long life to not letting things get to her. She speaks her mind, is strong-willed, loves her beer and is 100 percent Norwegian.
She enjoys having her family around her and last year went on a trip to Minnesota for a reunion.
A celebration for Myrtle was hosted in her honor on Jan. 17.
Myrtle has six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
